What is the Back to Back Literacy Backpack Project?
Each participating child care provider will receive one kit containing up to 21 take-home interactive and engaging early literacy and learning activities with examples including but not limited to animal tracks, counting and correspondence, five senses, incredible insects, life cycles, measuring, off to work we go, opposites, sorting, patterns, you are what you eat, and transition to kindergarten.
Young child and parent/caregiver will receive the kit to take home for up to one week. Kit will be returned to the child care provider (“school”) and another kit can be checked out for the new week.
Literacy kits include hands-on manipulatives, books, and a selection of related activities to optimize the learning experience. Kits will help toddlers and young children gain tangible skills – including opportunities for problem solving, creativity and play – in a variety of components with reading comprehension activities that will build readiness skills for kindergarten.
Each kit includes a clear vinyl backpack and bilingual activity cards to reach Spanish-speaking children and parents/caregivers.
