Mission Statement

Colorado Humanities is exclusively dedicated to humanities education in Colorado. We join efforts with hundreds of program partners statewide to design and provide education resources and programs in history, reading, writing and opportunities for discussions of challenging questions.

Organization Description

Colorado Humanities is the sponsoring organization for Motheread/Fatheread Colorado. Through MFC, trained facilitators provide a series of sessions to the parents of children from birth through third grade. Each lesson in the 29-lesson curriculum uses children's books and adult poems and narratives to develop parents and children's literacy skills. After participating in MFC, parents report that children exhibit more interest in rhyme, interaction with books and awareness of words in their environment. In addition, preschool-aged children show higher rates of growth on Teaching Strategies Gold Language Domain. Research shows that parents demonstrate an increased frequency of reading to their children and they are also more actively engaged in the reading process.
